Organization Description:
The Academy for Creating Enterprise alleviates global poverty by providing entrepreneurial education and ongoing support to Latter-day Saint returned missionaries in developing nations. In areas where a lack of traditional job opportunities leads to poverty, we teach Academy students how to develop and launch their own businesses, thus bringing themselves and their families up out of poverty. Through these business skills, and by understanding the value and attainability of self-reliance, Academy students are motivated and taught how to provide for the needs of their families, fulfill their callings in the Church, stay in their home countries, and strengthen their communities. The Academy has been a beacon of hope and strength for over a decade in the Philippines, where we have helped Academy alumni start more than 500 businesses and create thousands of jobs. In January 2011 the Academy started a residential training program on its newly-acquired four-acre campus in Mexico City. This program is partially staffed by student interns from US universities
